He also wrote and illustrated fourteen other books and created cover illustrations for the New Yorker, designed a Broadway set, and painted murals in the Carlyle Hotel in New York. Towards the end of his life, he became a serious painter and some of his works are displayed in the Metropolitan Museum and the Museé National d’Art of Paris. Ludwig Bemelmans died in 1962.
