An original Portrait painting of Sailor circa 20th century

Description and history

This is an original painting portrait of a sailor. Let’s start with our image recognition software:

We can see there is no coincidence with known similar paintings of the same style and type. I can conclude that the painting scene is original, it isn’t a reproduction.

From the pictures, we can see that the roughness of the surface is consistent with an original oil painting. The roughness and colors match and so do the brush strokes.

The back of the frame construction is made of wood, and the wood is machined. The frame construction is modern, telling us the age of this painting is circa the late 20th century. There is a word Mistica, written on the back. Mistica is a Spanish word that means Mysticism. It isn’t related to the author’s name.

To find the artist, I tried to search for all the variations of the signature. There is no other information available regarding the provenance of the painting, so I can only date the painting and provide value as an unknown/unlisted artist.

The painting has artistic value, and I have considered appraising the painting both the quality, size, type and style of painting.

Appraisal Value ($)

– 140-180$

How to sell it

Art pieces are difficult to sell, you will need some time to find a buyer, so be patient!

To sell the items, I would recommend doing so through the internet. You have plenty of options, for instance:

– Ebay, Craiglist, Etsy, Facebook ads, Amazon marktplace

I would probably go ahead and take a couple of good pictures, like described here:

Then I would use the provided description as a text to the ad, and an attractive ad title will make it.

There isn’t any special difference between selling it on Etsy, FB or Amazon. I would recommend to upload the same ad to at least two or three platforms. It will ensure a high visibility of the ad.

The asking price can be close to the value, it depends upon how fast you want to sell. In general, an agressive strategy of 20% price cut will work great, however it depends upon your specific location.

About the valuation method

To value this item I have considered the results from past auction sales. Keep in mind that the final price can be different from asking prices that you can find on the internet. You can see ads on the internet with different asking prices. However, a very high asking price doesn’t normally find cash from a buyer.

That’s why our method comprises searching and comparing similar past sale results that had a buyer. That’s why we can provide an accurate estimation of this item.

For art pieces, remember that it isn’t the same a print, a limited edition print or an original art piece. If the artist can’t be identified, the value assigned corresponds to the quality and potential interest of the market for the painting.

  1. Picture this – 3 am in the morning, I had a line of fiends stretched around the corner of my block. It was in the freezing middle of January but they had camped out all night, jumping-ready to buy like there was a sale on Jordans. If you were 16 years old, in my shoes, you’d do anything to survive, right? I got good news though; I MADE IT OUT OF THE HOOD, with nothing but a laptop and an internet connection. I’m not special or lucky in any way. If I, as a convicted felon that used to scream “Free Harlem” around my block until my throat was sore, could find a way to generate a stable, consistent, reliable income online, ANYONE can!
