I’m 52 and was told by my mom that this was my dad’s great grandfather’s rocking chair. He lived in Kansas. The seat was professionally refurbished about 20 yrs ago and hasn’t been sat in since. It’s not an adult size chair but it’s not a child’s chair either.

Description and history
This is an Antique Solid Wood Rocking Chair from circa 19th Century.
First, let’s look at the structure of the chair. This kind of chair is a very simple, no carvings or excessive decorative elements but it was hand-made. You can clealy see some irregularities between both sides of the chair. This style is called a “Primitive” style chair. Primitive furniture, also commonly called early American country furniture, refers to handmade tables, desks, dressers, and chairs from before the era of mass production. Primitive, as a style, uses primitive folk art style that is characteristic of a historic or early Americana time period, typically using elements with muted colors and a rough and simple look to them. Most of this furniture, made between the mid-1700s and early 1800s and my best estimate is that this chair was made in circa 19th century (1800-1850).
In general, a primitive item is utilitarian: furniture, dishware, tools, and cooking items are all considered primitive. For this chair, I think it is an early American furniture, how the quality is really good for its age, so it was made by an expert artisan.
For this rocking chair, we can see that the seat is made of Woven Rush. Most primitive chairs have the seat made of this material, so it perfectly matches with the area and style. I think it is the original seat, and it wasn’t replaced.
About the condition of the chair, I think it is in excellent condition, which increases its market value.
In my professional opinion, this antique is a true treasure. It combines modern-age technology with a classic aesthetic, and I’d be very surprised if it didn’t fetch a pretty price on the open market. Whatever your asking price is, I’m sure that there will be someone out there for whom this antique is the perfect purchase. Its value will only increase over time, so the buyer would be investing in more than just a beautiful addition to their home; they’d be adding to their investment portfolio as well.

Antiques, art, and other collectibles are difficult items to sell online. This can take a lot of time. Be patient, but also make sure that the price you are asking for is the right one for your pieces of art. Consider the following tips on how to sell antiques and collectibles online. It’s much more difficult to sell something when the potential buyer can’t be sure it is authentic. Sellers should use a well thought out descriptive guides, like this report. A good lead generation service should be helpful in establishing these relationships with online buyers, and an effective way to do this is through a classified ads. If a buyer asks for more information, giving them some valuable facts well ahead of time will get you more sales because your reputation increases and real customers are the ones who ask for more details.

However, a very high asking price doesn’t normally find cash from a buyer
