Description and history of
To investigate this work of art, I used a specialized software to analyse if it is listed in a private database of millions of paintings. The software takes the picture as input, compares it with millions of other works in the database, and outputs similar images. From the results, I can use the information to interprete the artwork. This software will be useful later to determine the origin of the art piece. The results of the automatic recognition are not conclusive. If a match is found, it will be showed below. Keep in mind these are three different paintings, so each image corresponds to each painting (starting from the left).
In this case, we see the algorithm can’t find a match. From this results, we can conclude the artwork is an original scene. In esence, this scene isn’t a reproduction of a known painting). Sadly, none of them is signed so it is impossible to extract more information from the signature.

From the back we can read the name of the person appearing in this portrait, and more importantly, the artist “by WR Hut”. As I couldn’t find the name, we need to study the surnames to know the origin of the artist. I used databases and websites with origins of surnames and names, for instance [source]
Hut is a name that was formed by the Anglo-Saxon society of old Britain. The name was thought to have been used for someone who once worked as a maker of hoods. The surname Hut is derived from the Old English words hod, hud, hood, and hodde, which all come from the Old English word hod, which means hood.
So we know the artist is originally from England.
Finally, I have checked the frame construction and medium used. I can use metallic parts and how the frame was constructed to know the age of the painting. For instance, paintings older than 18thC were made in frames without nails, or screws, or if they have any, they were hand made.
For this painting I find they are circa Victorian era, from early 20th Century.
This artwork is of exceptional quality. The composition is well balanced and the color scheme used by the artist is unique, attractive and inviting. I think this piece of art would be of interest to collectors and/or decorators. You don’t find paintings of this quality every day.
