This is a set of stained glass windows. The stained glass window is a beautiful work of art. Each panel of glass is cut to a different shape and size, and then the pieces are held together by lead strips. The lead strips give the window its strength, but they also add weight. The weight of the lead makes it difficult to hang large stained glass windows, so most are installed in buildings where they will be seen from below.
The process of making stained glass is both an art and a science. First, the artist draws a design on paper. Next, the pattern is transferred to a piece of clear glass. After the glass is cut, it is placed in a kiln and heated until it is soft enough to bend. Once it has cooled, the finished window is installed in a frame.
Stained glass windows are often irregular in shape because they are hand made. Mass-produced windows are usually made with machines, so they tend to be more uniform in appearance. However, hand made windows are more unique and often have more character.
I couldn't see a purchase tickets or maker's mark, so I think these were custom made. In any case, the quality of the glass is exceptional, there is no doubt it is American.
The windows are from circa early 20th Century, sometimes called Edwardian Period. The Edwardian period is named after King Edward VII, who ruled from 1901 until his death in 1910. The Edwardian period is often seen as a time of peace and prosperity, as it followed the Victorian era and came before the First World War. However, the period was not without its challenges, including the Boer War and the growing threat of German militarism. Nonetheless, the Edwardian period is remembered as a time of elegance and refinement, with opulent homes and fashionable clothing.
