Description and history
This is a 19th Century Japanese Hand Carved Meiji Period Mother of Pearl Six-paneled Room Screen.
First, let’s look at the age of this screen. We can estimate the age by simply taking a look at the metallic parts used. The hinges and metallic parts in this screen are modern, from circa 19th Century. Keep in mind that older metallic pieces are hand made, very irregular, with impurities and made of poor alloys. This isn’t the case of this screen. We can see the metallic parts are truly modern era, from circa 19th Century.
The Period of the Screen is Meiji Period. The Meiji era is an era of Japanese history that extended from October 23, 1868 to July 30, 1912. The Meiji era was the first half of the Empire of Japan.
The size of the screen is quite unusual, most screens are 4-panelled screen, while this one is a six-paneled screen. It think this detail increases its value. We can see the screen is richly decorated with mother of pearl. Nacre, also known as mother of pearl, is an organic–inorganic composite material produced by some molluscs as an inner shell layer. Mother-of-pearl shell is commonly believed to attract prosperity and is often used in mystical work and lore to heighten intuition, psychic sensitivity and imagination. Antique Japanese screen room divider is a distinctive piece of art that would look great wherever it’s placed. In addition, the buyer may also sell it to another antique collector if it does not suit him/her. Antiques, art, and other collectibles are difficult items to sell online. This can take a lot of time. Be patient, but also make sure that the price you are asking for is the right one for your pieces of art. Consider the following tips on how to sell antiques and collectibles online. It’s much more difficult to sell something when the potential buyer can’t be sure it is authentic. Sellers should use a well thought out descriptive guides, like this report. If a buyer asks for more information, giving them some valuable facts well ahead of time will get you more sales because your reputation increases and real customers are the ones who ask for more details.
